Quick Links
In 2023, over 8 million people received Botox all over the world. It continues to be one of the most popular nonsurgical wrinkle treatments available today. If you’re looking to smooth out lines and wrinkles and achieve a younger appearance, you can’t go wrong with Botox.
What is Botox?
Botox consists of botulinum toxin type A and is classified as a neuromodulator that can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles and temporarily stopping them from contracting. This popular formula can be used to soften the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and bunny lines.
Beyond cosmetic purposes, Botox can also treat certain medical conditions like migraines, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, and specific eye problems.

Botox Candidates
Almost everyone is a good candidate for Botox, but we typically look for patients who are over the age of 18, in generally good health, have realistic expectations, and are struggling with dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle contractions.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have had a history of sensitivity to botulinum toxin products, Botox may not be right for you.
The Botox Treatment
Botox injections are an outpatient procedure. Once you receive treatment, you can go back to your normal routine immediately.
To start treatment, we’ll begin by cleansing the treatment area and marking the injection sites. From there, your provider will use a very thin needle to administer your Botox injections. How many injections you receive and where they are placed will depend on where your areas of concern are and the extent of your lines and wrinkles.
In total, treatment usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes.
Botox Recovery
After your Botox treatment, you’ll want to avoid lying down on the treatment areas for 2-4 hours and avoid rubbing or massaging the area for 24 hours. You can return to most of your normal activities, but you will want to refrain from strenuous activities for 24-48 hours.
The Botox formula tends to start working within 2-3 days, with full results showing up in 1-2 weeks. To maintain your results, you’ll want to receive repeated treatment every 3-4 months.
Specialized and Lesser-Known Neurotoxin Treatments
Jelly Roll Neurotoxin Treatment (Under-Eye Puffiness)
A newer yet highly effective use of neuromodulators is the “jelly roll” treatment. Here, small amounts of Botox (or similar neurotoxins) are injected into the orbicularis oculi muscle just beneath the lower eyelid. This technique softens the under-eye “jelly roll”—the puffy area that appears when smiling or squinting—by relaxing the muscle responsible for this bulge. The result is a smoother, more refreshed under-eye area with minimal downtime and subtle, natural-looking improvement. This treatment is especially popular among patients seeking to reduce under-eye puffiness without surgery, and results typically last 3–4 months.
Chin Neurotoxin Treatment (Chin Dimpling and Tension)
Another effective but less widely known use of neuromodulators is for chin reshaping. Neurotoxin injections (such as Botox or Dysport) are strategically placed in the mentalis muscle of the chin to smooth excessive dimpling—commonly known as “pebble chin”—and relax tension that can cause puckering or an uneven appearance. This approach results in a softer, more balanced chin contour and can also enhance overall facial harmony. Treatment is quick, requires no downtime, and results last about 3–4 months.
