Are you experiencing genital discomfort or simply looking to improve your confidence and appearance? Labiaplasty has various medical and aesthetic benefits that can improve your quality of life. Learn more about labiaplasty below.

What is Labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is commonly performed to decrease the size of the labia minora. In some women the excess tissue in this area can lead to irritation, discomfort and/ or pain. The primary goal of this procedure is to reduce the excess tissue of the labia minora so that it does not hang below the labia majora. This procedure can also be used to address asymmetry.

Labiaplasty Candidates

Candidates for a labiaplasty include individuals who are experiencing symptoms associated with enlarged labia minora, uncomfortable with the appearance of their genitals and those who want to correct any asymmetry. Candidates must not smoke and need to be in generally good health.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

The labiaplasty procedure will begin with our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. D’Agostino, examining and marking the surgical site. After this, she will infiltrate the area with local anesthetic. Dr. D’Agostino will then make incisions in the previously discussed and marked areas. Your excess skin is then removed, and the remaining skin is sutured together creating smooth trimmed edges. There are multiple techniques for Labiaplasty and based on the evaluation the technique that will provide the best results will be selected for you.

Labiaplasty Recovery

Recovering after your labiaplasty procedure can take a few weeks. You may notice mild pain and swelling, which will improve daily. Icing, elevating the bottom,  loose clothing and proper hygiene are important during the recovery period. Patients need to refrain from sexual intercourse and from wearing tampons for four to six weeks. You can return to work after 3-4 days of resting. Heavy lifting should be avoided to allow the sensitive area to heal correctly. You may experience discomfort that will be manageable with medication. Following Dr. D’Agostino’s aftercare instructions are essential to help your body heal.

Dr. D is AMAZING!

I knew two things were most important to me when looking for the right surgeon: the results and bedside manner. I feel so grateful to have hit the jackpot with Dr D who gave me the BEST of both of those. From the first moment I met her in the consult, I knew she was different from most doctors. She is incredibly kind, sweet, patient, and attentive. She made me feel cared for in a way that’s hard to put into words, but when you’re preparing for a big surgery, it’s the exact type of energy that puts you at total ease. Dr D not only answered all my questions, on multiple different occasions, leading up to surgery but she was extremely patient with them all.

I am extremely pleased with Dr. D’Agostino.

I am extremely pleased with Dr. D’Agostino. She is always on time, personable and kind! She walked me through every step of my procedure, removed all of my cancer and did an amazing job. My scar is barely noticeable at just a couple weeks after my procedure. I will definitely be back for any other cosmetic needs.
