What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulatory aesthetic injectable dermal filler designed to help smooth lines and facial wrinkles and tighten the skin by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production. Collagen is a protein in the skin and connective tissues that provides support, structure, and strength to the skin to improve skin quality.
The minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment can be used on the cheeks and jawline but has also been shown to be effective on the hips and buttocks as well.

About the Treatment
Sculptra treatment could not be simpler. Your provider will begin by cleansing the treatment area and preparing the formula. We may also apply a topical anesthetic to your skin, but most patients tolerate any discomfort very well. From there, your provider will use a very fine needle or cannula to inject the Sculptra formula into the treatment area. At most, you’ll feel some slight pressure.
How many injections you require will depend on the results you’re looking for and the extent of your skin concerns. We often recommend three treatment sessions for optimal results.
Treatment Areas
Sculptra can be used on a variety of treatment areas, including the cheeks, smile lines, marionette lines, and other areas with visible signs of aging. Sculptra has also been shown to be effective for a non-surgical butt lift and to address hip dips.
What to Expect After Treatment
After your Sculptra injections, you will likely be able to resume your normal routine immediately. You may notice some bruising, swelling, or mild soreness, but these side effects typically subside within a few days. To optimize your results, follow the Sculptra massage protocol—massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This helps evenly distribute the product and reduces the risk of nodules. Additionally, avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, blood thinners, and direct sun exposure for 24-48 hours.
As for results, unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers that show instant results, Sculptra’s results develop gradually as the formula stimulates collagen.
You will start to see results after a few weeks, but it can take 6 months before your full results are visible. At that point, your skin should look plumper, firmer, and younger-looking. Many patients also notice a more youthful glow with Sculptra treatment. Results tend to last for up to two years, and repeated treatment is necessary to maintain those results.
