What is Xeomin? 

Xeomin is an FDA-approved neuromodulator injectable that’s used for both cosmetic and medical purposes. For cosmetic uses, it works by temporarily stopping the facial muscles from contracting, allowing lines and wrinkles to smooth out, soften, and diminish.

Xeomin has also been shown to be effective for migraines, overactive bladder, neck spasms, and certain eye conditions.

Xeomin Candidates 

Ideal candidates for Xeomin are healthy adults who are 18 years old or older, those with realistic expectations, and anyone struggling with moderate to severe frown lines. Your provider at 5th Avenue Plastic Surgery will determine if Xeomin is right for you during your consultation. 

We typically don’t recommend Xeomin for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Xeomin Treatment

Xeomin treatment is relatively simple. We’ll start by cleansing the treatment area. From there, your provider will mark the injection site and then use a thin needle to inject small amounts of the Xeomin into the targeted muscles. How many injections you need will depend on the treatment area and the results you’re looking for. In total, the process typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. 

Xeomin Recovery

There is little to no recovery time with Xeomin treatment. You may have some bruising, redness, and swelling at the injection site, but those side effects will dissipate relatively quickly. You can return to most of your normal activities, but you should avoid strenuous exercise, putting pressure on the treatment area, and direct heat exposure for a few days.

The Xeomin formula tends to start working within 2-3 days, with full results showing up in 1-2 weeks. To maintain your results, you’ll want to receive repeated treatment every 3-4 months.

Xeomin is a botulinum toxin type A like Botox and Dysport, but it is formulated without accessory proteins, making it a "naked" or "cleaner" alternative. This may lower the risk of developing resistance over time.

How long do Xeomin results last?

Xeomin effects typically last 3 to 4 months. For ongoing wrinkle reduction, regular maintenance treatments are recommended.

Can Xeomin be used for both cosmetic and medical purposes?

Yes. In addition to treating facial wrinkles, Xeomin is FDA-approved for medical conditions like cervical dystonia and chronic migraines, depending on your provider’s evaluation.

What areas are commonly treated with Xeomin?

Xeomin is most often used for: Forehead lines, Glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows), Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes)

Is there any downtime after a Xeomin treatment?

There’s minimal to no downtime. Most patients return to normal activities right away but should avoid intense physical activity, alcohol, and lying down for at least 4 hours post-treatment.
