Restore the lost or missing soft tissue volume of the face to create a healthier, softer, and more attractive appearance. Pioneered by Dr. Tzikas, Lipografting is one of our premier anti-aging procedures at 5th Avenue Plastic Surgery.

What is Lipografting?

Lipografting is an advanced, state-of-the-art technique developed by Dr. Tzikas to restore volume with unparalleled, natural results. It involves collecting fat cells from one body area and transferring them to another. This involves taking careful steps to purify the extracted fat cells so that they achieve a permanent and natural-looking augmentation. Dr. Tzikas, our double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon, takes great care in collecting, purifying, and injecting the cells to ensure maximal viability in their new home. Secondly, the collected cells are placed within the deep tissue structures of the face where existing blood supplies can better nourish them. The cells contain a high percentage of adipose-derived regenerative cells, which can help form new tissue and ensure the most natural-looking results possible – primarily when performed by Dr. Tzikas with an artistic eye and exceptional grasp of three-dimensional aesthetics. There are two aspects of Lipografting microfat and nanofat microfat. Microfat is purified fat cells that give natural volume to the face. Nanofat is an enhanced stem cell desired from the breakdown of microfat. Nanofat improves skin texture and fine lines. Both microfat and nanofat are performed during the same procedure.

Lipografting Candidates

Lipografting is an incredibly beneficial technique in the hands of a skilled facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Tzikas utilizes Lipografting in some of the following ways:

  • Restoring youthful fullness and softness to the aging face and hands
  • Shaping facial features such as lips, cheeks, nose, jawline, forehead, eyelids, and more
  • Correcting acne scars
  • Revising previous surgical procedures such as liposuction, facelift, or eyelid surgery
  • Revising laser or radiofrequency treatments

To be considered a good candidate, you should be in overall good health. During a private consultation with Dr. Tzikas and our team, you’ll discuss your goals for facial rejuvenation and determine whether Lipografting is compatible with your ideal look, the amount of fat present, and more. Our double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Tzikas, will give you a complete and professional opinion on the best ways to reverse aging and feel more like your most energetic, thriving self.

The Lipografting Procedure

Lipografting begins by carefully collecting fat cells from a donor area like the stomach, hips, or thighs. The collected fat cells are then meticulously cleaned and separated so that only pure fat cells are present. The tissue is then precisely injected three-dimensionally into your treatment area to sculpt your ideal results. By filling in areas of the face that have lost volume, you’ll see a noticeable reduction in sagging and laxity. In fact, by replacing lost volume in these areas, you’ll look more like your younger self with a plumper, more lifted look.

Lipografting Recovery

After your procedure, you’ll experience swelling and bruising that typically subsides within 1-2 weeks. You’ll likely experience discomfort in your donor area rather than your treatment area, but it’s generally minimal. You will be instructed to limit your activity level for a few weeks while you recover. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions – you can expect to see full results within 1-2 months.

FAQ

What is lipografting and how does it work?

Lipografting, also known as fat grafting or fat transfer, is a cosmetic procedure that involves harvesting fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another area to enhance volume and contour. The process typically involves three steps: fat extraction through syringe liposuction, purification and processing of the fat, and re-injection into the desired area. This technique is commonly used for facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, and correcting contour irregularities.

What are the benefits of lipografting compared to synthetic fillers?

Lipografting offers several benefits over synthetic fillers. Since it uses the patient's own fat, there is a reduced risk of allergic reactions and rejection. Additionally, the results of lipografting can be more natural and longer-lasting compared to synthetic fillers, which may require periodic reapplication. Lipografting also allows for larger volume enhancements in areas such as the breasts or buttocks.

How long does the recovery process take after lipografting?

The recovery time for lipografting varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the areas treated. Generally, patients can expect swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, with most returning to normal activities within one to two weeks. Full recovery and the final results may take several months as the body adjusts and the grafted fat settles.

Are there any risks or complications associated with lipografting?

As with any surgical procedure, lipografting carries some risks and potential complications. These can include infection, bleeding, fat absorption, or uneven results. However, when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, the risks are minimized. It is important for patients to discuss their medical history and any concerns with their surgeon prior to the procedure.

Who is a good candidate for lipografting?

Ideal candidates for lipografting are individuals who have sufficient donor fat available for transfer and are in good overall health. They should have realistic expectations about the outcomes and be seeking to enhance volume in specific areas of the body. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help determine if lipografting is the right option for a patient’s needs.
