You may have noticed the development of excess skin or fatty tissue in your mons pubis due to aging, pregnancy, and weight loss. Individuals who gain weight for long periods can experience stretching of the skin, which can affect the elasticity of the mons pubis, causing it to sag from its original position. What is Pubic Lift Surgery?
Public lift surgery, also known as monsplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fatty tissue and/ or skin from the mons pubis. The mons pubis is the area of tissue that is located over the pubic bone. During this procedure, you can experience lifting, tightening, and reshaping of the area. This surgery can also improve function and relieve any discomfort you may have previously experienced, such as rashes and inability to properly fit in your clothes.

Pubic Lift Candidates
Ideal candidates for pubic lift procedures include individuals with excess skin or tissue that hangs over the genitals. This can make cleansing your genitals complicated and can cause rashes or infections in the area. Candidates may also have trouble urinating or participating in sexual intercourse because of a prominent mons pubis. Candidates also must be in generally good health, should not smoke, and must maintain a stable body weight for six months close to their ideal weight. This can ensure that the patient heals optimally and that the results from your pubic lift surgery are long-lasting.
The Pubic Lift Procedure
During a pubic lift, you are sedated with general anesthesia, allowing you not to feel any pain during the procedure and to be in a sleep-like state. After you are sedated, our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. D’Agostino, will carefully use a scalpel to draw a horizontal incision across the mons pubis. They will then use a scalpel or surgical scissors to trim excess fatty tissue and skin. Afterward, Dr. D’Agostino will use internal sutures to tighten or shape the muscles and tissues. Dr. D’Agostino may also place small drains to help drain fluid or blood. The tubes will be stitched in place, and the incision will be meticulously closed.

After your surgery, you will be released to a caregiver, and they will take you home. The first few days after surgery are usually the most uncomfortable. You may notice soreness, bruising, and swelling in the area. After a week, you will see less pain and can start to feel more energetic. After one to two weeks, you can return to non-laborious work and begin light daily activities. All physical activity should be avoided for four to six weeks. The incision from surgery can take up to eight weeks to fully heal. Recovery times will vary; however, you must follow Dr. D’Agostino’s aftercare instructions.
