Life–it’s full of activities like time with friends, rounds of golf, tennis matches and plenty of shopping. Travel plans fill up your schedule because family togetherness, regardless of region, is a priority on your list (as well as that trip to Sydney, Australia).

While feeling great and loving the life you are living it would be icing on the cake to look as good as you feel.

Thanks to the wonders of facial rejuvenation, a set of procedures that can make your skin look smoother and give you the clear complexion you had in your younger years.

Often facial rejuvenation begins with a facelift or a partial lift procedure such as an eyelid lift. To get the optimum result from a facelift you will also want to have laser skin resurfacing.

Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure that does what a facelift cannot. A laser, a concentrated beam of light, is used to minimize or erase fine to medium lines and wrinkles. It can also reduce and repair blemishes, scars, skin discoloration, age spots, and sun damage.

When used in conjunction with a facelift the results are remarkable.

How Laser Skin Resurfacing Works

It sounds contrary but laser skin resurfacing works in part by damaging the first few layers of skin, causing them to peel off and allow new skin cells to grow. Depending on the strength of the light used, the laser can penetrate deeper to heat the inner layers of skin, or dermis, to stimulate the formation of a substance called collagen which gives the skin its structure and elasticity.

As the skin heals, new collagen and skin cells will form that are firmer and smoother than the previous tissue. Peeling skin cells take with them the discoloration as well, leaving a flawless complexion.

Facelift and Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Be Done Together

Unlike chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing can be done along with the facelift in the same procedure. Not only does this save time, it allows your skin to heal all at once. There is no need to go through repeated rounds of healing.

Having both procedures also addresses more of the components of aging than either can do alone. The facelift can remove deeper wrinkles and remove excess skin. But it cannot change the skin’s pigmentation and it is too intensive for finer lines. Laser skin resurfacing complements surgery by finishing what the facelift started.

How to Select a Doctor

As with any medical procedure, you want to know you are in good hands. Here is a what to look for while determining if this is the physician for you.

  • Certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Training in plastic surgery
  • National or state, or Medicare accreditation or licensing of the surgical facility
  • Specific training in the procedure you need, including the use of lasers

You will also want answers to these questions:

  1. What procedures are best for my needs?
  2. Am I a good candidate for the recommended procedures?
  3. Who will perform the procedures and has he/she been trained in these specific procedures?
  4. Where will the procedure be performed and what are the details of the treatment?
  5. How long is the recovery expected to take?
  6. What are the possible risks and complications of this type of procedure?
  7. How will I look during the course of recovery and how can I get the best results?
  8. May I see some before and after photos of previous patients?
  9. What should I expect in the way of results?
